Department of Engineer Technology

Research

Monitoring the trends in technical development of the Engineer Force is one of the main pillars of the research and development activities at the Department of Engineer Technology. These are published in scientific papers at conferences, in research reports and in grant projects.

Cooperation with the 15th Engineer Regiment, VOP Nový Jičín, Military Research Institute, s.p. Brno, Ministry of Transport – Security Department, State Material Reserves Administration of the Czech Republic, Brno University of Technology, Czech Technical University in Brno, Czech Technical University in Prague, University of Žilina in Žilina and National University of Public Service in Budapest is developing very well.

Reach-Back Laboratory

The Reach-Back Laboratory was inaugurated in the presence of the top management of the school and faculties. The Reach-Back Laboratory is a joint work and project of the Department of Engineering Technology and the Department of Combat Security Management.

It is focused on providing technical information to engineer specialists and its main element is the Engineer Information Portal, which is running in trial (but successful) operation so far. One of the main subsystems of the portal – Reach-Back was successfully tested during several staff exercises of the VGHMÚř (Military Geographical and Hydrometeorological Office) in Dobruška during consultations for KFOR and ISAF missions.

Design and Testing of Protective Structures

The subject of the research is the design and testing of protective structures applicable for both military and civilian purposes. The design of the structures is focused on the search for suitable material for the supporting structure of the protective structure in cooperation with the CTU and the Military Research Institute, s.p. Brno.

Currently, the development of the material model is directed towards a cement composite reinforced with wires. Testing of the material and structures is carried out in military training facilities in close cooperation with the units of the engineer army of the Czech Armed Forces.

Specific Research Project „Improving the Ability to Face Crisis Situations“

The project „Improvement of the ability to face crisis situations“ within the specific research of the Department of Engineering Technologies is a continuation of the tasks solved in previous years.

This project corresponds to the selected thematic directions (priorities) of defence R&D, listed in the Concept of Defence Applied Research and Development until 2015. The project was divided into two subtasks, Reach-Back Laboratory and Construction of the Czech Armed Forces Bases in Foreign Missions, which were solved independently of each other.

Heavy Logistics Bridge according to CSN and STANAG NATO Requirements

This MoD grant project No. 1F44L/079/030 was led by NOVING s.r.o. and the department participated in it in the field of 3D modelling and preparation of design data.

The project was focused on analysis and research for the subsequent development of a heavy logistics bridge meeting the requirements of EN, CSN and STANAG, ensuring compatibility within NATO. The result is the design documentation of a Heavy Logistics Bridge with load class MLC90/120.

Assessment and Design of Modifications to the TMS Bridge Structure in accordance with NATO Standards

The project 1F44L/078/030, entitled Assessment and Design of Modifications to the TMS Bridge Structure to NATO Standards, was primarily concerned with the certification of all used structural arrangements and standard spans for military MLC load classes to STANAG 2021.

In total, 21 different bridge design arrangements were certified, ranging from 15 to 54 m span.
